The fastest made book on earth,
Celje 2003
The project of the fastest made book
on earth is going ahead without interruption. Today or tomorrow we
will hopefully receive a reply to our record application from the
Guiness Book of Records. Despite the fact that the institution is
called 'The Book of Records', it takes them quite a long time to reply.
The reason for this is the fact that they receive many record-related
enquiries every day from people who would like to set or break a record,
so it takes them between six and eight weeks to reply. By paying a
charge of 250 pounds, which is approximately 84,000 tolars, this will
be done somewhat faster. As our project emerged very quickly, we had
to choose the second possibility. Which has so far been, apart from
the work we have put in, the only actual cost of the project.
Our website, which has been created by
the agency S-2000 from Celje, is slowly filling with facts and information
on the project. You can find its link on www.celje.si. There you can
find out everything about the project, the participating writers and
photographers are introduced with their biography, photo and bibliography.
The website is being regularly updated with the latest news on the
project.
While considering how to arouse interest
in the website about the project of the fastest made book on earth
and also in the book itself, we realized that the internet is full
of Power Point files (pps) with various jokes on many different subjects.
This is why we decided to announce a contest for the best Power Point-formatted
file on the topic of the book. We have also added a subgroup to the
central topic, namely 'the exposed book'. In this subgroup we will
publish pps-files with rather erotically coloured contents. As a matter
of fact, most of the pps-files travelling the internet are of suggestive
contents. Practically everybody who uses the computer for at least
two hours a day must have come into contact with them, be it managers,
secretaries, doctors, writers, academics or others. When deciding
on whether to upgrade the contest with a further subgroup called 'the
exposed book', some scruples came up in us and with them the question
if this could devalue the entire project. In the end these thoughts
even scared us as they automatically put the book on a pedestal, as
being something prestigious and holy. Which would mean that we are
pushing it away from the people, from the ones they are meant for.
And who can enter the contest?
Anyone who has ever received a Power Point-formatted e-mail which
is somewhat connected with the topic of books.
Anyone who knows how to use Power Point and who likes creating files.
Anyone who thinks that this is a good way of saying something nice
and interesting.
And, of course, anyone who believes that this is a good way of increasing
the interest in books, of stimulating the reading habits and everything
related to this subject.
The prizes are attractive as well. The
first prize will be a copy of the fastest made book. The second prize
offers the winner a one-day visit to Celje, including lunch with the
Mayor of the City Municipality of Celje, Mr Bojan Šrot, a sight-seeing
tour of Celje and a seat in the VIP Stand at the football match CMC
Publikum playing Olimpija. There will also be a prize for the best
file in the subgroup 'the exposed book'. Thus the winner will receive
a CD with all the pps-files that have been bublished in this subgroup.
There will not be a jury needed for rating
the sent pps-files as the winner will be chosen by the people visiting
our website. The pps-files can be sent to info@celje.si and will be
published on the website, where the visitors can vote for them. |
